Alyona Savranenko took on pretty much any odd job available before becoming a full-time preschool teacher in her hometown of Baryshivka, not far from the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. With a degree in psychology, she could have settled comfortably from there on out, except that practically overnight, her hobby turned into a new career: the video »Ribki 2,« a surrealist parody of a well known kids’ show, spread alyona alyona’s name far beyond the Ukrainian rap scene. This was the culmination (though certainly not the final one) of a passion that Savranenko has been nurturing since childhood, coloured by her penchant for Ukrainian literature as much as contemporary everyday life in Baryshivka, along with musical influences from Atlanta and the cloud. Rapper with a positive message: there’s probably not a better occupation for alyona alyona than that.
