The Senate Department for Culture and Europe and Musicboard Berlin have fought along with the roughly 1,000 musicians at the Rockhaus to make sure they would not have to move out give up their rehearsal rooms as had been threatened. The rent is still rising, although the state of Berlin continues to fight for every cent. Musician and Rockhaus tenant Stephan Zebisch can tell first-hand about what this process has meant for those involved, while Dr. Klaus Lederer, the Mayor and Senator for Culture and Europe, can explain the city's strategies for preserving the Rockhaus. Along with radio journalist Christoph Schrag, they will discuss Berlin's understanding of cultural spaces and what the possible courses of action might look like, both on a small and large scale. One thing's for sure: something needs to be done if we want to preserve the city's music scene. But what?
