Why does everyone turn their ears toward the big city when the next big thing is actually coming from four of the 12,095 residents of Ludwigslust (as of 2013)? Die Kerzen (»The Candles«) picked a name that can also refer to spark plugs or of a vertical yoga pose, and it just so happens they’ve got fire under the hood and are nimble enough to hurl the sound of the eighties into the present and around the world. The debut EP by Fizzy Blizz, Die Katze, Jelly del Monaco and Super Luci, »Erotik International,« features the best music from »the Versailles of the North« this side of Johannes Matthias Sperger. Pining, funky New Romantic pop from the country’s Northeast that, in just five tunes, makes Berlin nothing more than a city outside of Ludwigslust.
