Gillian Gilbert founded The Inadequates in the late seventies along with two two other musicians in Macclesfield, England. They were never fated for success – they once even had to buy a single from another band who practiced nearby in order to get a ride home after a gig. Their music sounded terrible, as Gilbert recalled about ten years later. Still, she was invited to play guitar on the first single for a band that was reconfiguring, a version of »Ceremony« by Joy Division, therefore completing the lineup of New Order. A lot has happened since then. Gibert took over on keyboard, married drummer Stephen Morris, and New Order has broken up twice. Since the group reunited in 2011, there’s been plenty of further action. Still, Gilbert has found the time to play as a DJ on the opening day of Pop-Kultur. Maybe not the Joy Division single from back then, but definitely a lot of fantastic music.
