Karies

If Karies (German for »tooth decay«) sounded like their Wikipedia entry begins, we’d all be worse off: »Karies is a German punk band from Stuttgart that belongs to the sub-genre of post-punk,« it reads, dry as a cracker. It’s about as fun as that little saying by Adorno and Horkheimer they wrote on their first demo in 2013: »Fun is a medicinal bath«. It speaks for itself that the band could release three confrontational LPs off the cuff, and the music therein goes even further. The punk of Karies is a medicinal bath, for sure. But also hot and funky, ice-cold and tough. Let’s try it like this: Karies is a German punk band from Stuttgart that sounds exactly like tooth decay feels: somewhere deep inside it hurts so badly that only screaming can help.
