Valerie Trebeljahr recently came to the conclusion that not everything has come to an end. Neither with her project Lali Puna, which she reactivated in 2017 with the brilliant LP »Two Windows,« nor with the world itself. On her new EP »Being Water,« besides an inquisition on the masculine concept of genius, there’s a Hito Steyerl-inspired piece and the single »For Only Love,« whose fundamental statement Trebeljahr sums up as: »Don’t give up on being tender!«. A call for perseverance in a shaken-up world. Fittingly, the music on »Being Water« sounds sensitive yet headstrong, full of pop hooks and unflinchingly experimental songwriting. Valerie Trebeljahr isn’t giving up. Not on herself, not on the world, and certainly not on the emancipatory potential of music.
