Every journey, no matter how long, must come to an end. At Pop-Kultur, it usually happens with a closing party, this year on Friday night at Frannz, where Henryk Gericke will be playing. Gericke runs two vinyl labels, Iron Curtain Radio and tapetopia, which pays tribute to the illegal cassette scene of the GDR. tapetopia launched with a reissue of Ornament & Verbrechen’s extremely limited debut tape from 1988 and focuses on small, hard-to-find releases from the East Germany avant-garde. Under the name Nic Sleazy, Gericke brings his expertise to the turntables and spins decade-spanning post-punk, meaning: old-school new wave, shiny darkwave and scorching cold wave. Plus, of course, a couple of black gems from the GDR underground. Dance your way down to earth, and go even deeper.
