Manthe Ribane and Gervase Gordon got to know each other on the set of the film »Ghost Diamond« by South African artist Chris Saunders. Ribane was there as a dancer and lead role, Gordon was to create the soundtrack under his alias Okzharp. Since then, the Johannesburger makes music with the Cape Towner, who meanwhile lives in London. In 2018, they released their first album together, the aptly titled »Closer Apart«. It was created on journeys, in hotel rooms and on airport floors, at the intersecting interests of two different personalities. Gordon's background in grime and UK bass shines through the 13 tracks as much as Ribane's early musical training in jazz, classical and gospel. Any supposed differences are what give the duo their intimacy – that which separates them only brings them closer together.
