Leyla Yenirce’s name is also in the Pop-Kultur program with the Hamburg collective One Mother. As Rosaceae, the sound artist deals with the genocide of the Yezidi population that the Daesh began in 2014, focusing especially on the systematic, violent suppression of women. Words fail Rosaceae, who – through brute sounds that traverse noise, ambient and experimental electronic music – conveys a visceral experience in response. The voices of Yezidi women became the source material for her EP »Nadia’s Escape,« released earlier this year on Hamburg label Neoprimitive. For Pop-Kultur, she has expanded her work visually for a stage setting, using projection surfaces, dancers and samplers to explore the ways in which female traumas are processed, creating new diasporic narratives. Uneasy listening guaranteed.
