The arrival of acid house in Great Britain was the dawn of a new era. It went down in history as the »Second Summer of Love«. The UK populace began raving just as Margaret Thatcher’s claim that »there is no such thing as society« threatened to become true. The strict measures of austerity were countered by an unleashed hedonism, neoliberal politics were met by an unrestrained urge for freedom. Commissioned by Gucci and realised by art magazine Frieze with artist Jeremy Deller, »Everybody in The Place: An Incomplete History of Britain 1984-1992« offers an unusual perspective on this period: Deller sat down with a number of sixth-form politics students for whom the Second Summer of Love was already a faded past. The result is as refreshing as cold, clear water after twenty hours of raving – a documentary packed with archive material combining politics, partying and history lessons.
