The first time the general public heard Jenny Wilson’s voice was on »Deep Cuts,« the album that led The Knife to international success. Since then, the Swedish singer-songwriter has garnered attention for her solo work that’s equally profound and incisive. »Bitter? No, I Just Love to Complain,« she insisted on her 2005 debut »Love and Youth,« but thirteen years and three LPs later, she found catharsis in an album-length »Exorcism«. Wilson’s experimental sound, influenced by hip-hop and industrial, brings to mind the confrontational final album by her former comrades from The Knife and is accompanied by challenging lyrics about sexualised violence. An urgent, insistent intervention amid a global debate in which the last word has not yet been spoken – or sung, for that matter.
