Jessica Einaudi has to drag around a big name with her, always asked at cocktail parties, »Like the publisher?« or »Related to Ludovico?«. The former was run by her grandfather, the latter is her father. Perhaps that’s why she had been releasing under a pseudonym, or more recently made music with composer Federico Albanese as La Blanche Alchimie. »Black and Gold« is the first album attributed to Jessica Einaudi, and through discreet electro-pop borrowings and weary piano tones, the Italian Berliner shows she can well shoulder her big name. »Call me what you want«, she sings in the opening song, the tellingly titled »I Don’t Care«.
