Mykki Blanco would make Marie Kondo shudder: nothing clearly organised, too many ambiguities, too many artistic and political playgrounds. Poetry, a record label and his own productions, groundbreaking performances, fashion, numerous polarising short films, the ongoing deconstruction of gender stereotypes and activism against structural racism and its effects on everyday life – Mykki’s life encompasses a lot, a whole lot. But the heavenly disorder, the delectable chaos becomes a proper petri dish for new exuberant ideas. »Stay Close to Music, Stay Close to God« is the name of the follow-up to the self-titled debut album, which sounds much more orderly than the songs actually are. It’s not easy to find one label that fits Mykki, but he sure does spark joy.
