For some years now, Derya Yıldırım has been at the cutting edge of the Turkish-European crossover. The singer and multi-instrumentalist started learning piano, guitar, oud, saxophone and bağlama as a child. From 2013 to 2016, she studied at the Hamburg Musikhochschule and continued her studies under Taner Akyol at the Berlin University of the Arts. Yıldırım is constantly rearranging the rich tradition of Turkish poetry, leading it into the future without losing consciousness of the past. Although she often plays with a full band, as on her debut album »Kar Yağlar« – a symbiosis of Anatolian folk music, contemporary grooves and hints of psych, jazz and funk – her solo set in the Çaystube will be dedicated to Anatolian folk. On bağlama – the Turkish lute – and with her resonating voice, she’ll draw listeners into a world of melancholic sounds.
