Moshtari Hilal is an artist from Hamburg who works with illustration as a medium and a symbol of a new visual language that refers to the black-haired body. Her search for a new expressive way to narrate the sensual experiences of those who exist outside of our aesthetic notions and their political issues, has led her to autobiographical as well as archival and research work. »The Black Haired Bomb« portrays bodies and faces determined by lines of black. Through negation and politicisation, Hilal’s visual vocabulary renders tenderness and dignity visible where the absence of the beautiful and the sublime is being presumed. Accordingly, the bomb is both a reproach and an exclamation.
